9 games for 2009

Yet another challenge for the next year, not books this time, but video games!

I plan to complete 9 video games I picked from the black notebook in which I list all the games people told me I absolutely needed to try. Well, the list is huge, so the choice wasn't easy, but the nine elected games are...

#1 -- Final Fantasy VII [PSX]

"W...What??! You haven't played this game yet???" Nope, I haven't. But I'm willing to atone for my sin & make it my top priority. In fact, I'm already enjoying it on my PSP. I could not avoid this one as I was totally enchanted by Crisis Core.

#2 -- Xenogears [PSX]

As my brother spent most of his energy the last few years telling me how this game was the ultimate RPG of aaaall times, I cannot - & do not wish to - escape it. I especially look forward to playing this one & hope the high expectations I put into it won't be proved groundless. Haha, & the bad guy looks somehow like a shoujo hero (naked?? WTH??).

#3 -- Guilty Gear Judgement [PSP]

I sometimes like to go berserk (don't be afraid, I mean only in the video gaming world), so this is the perfect game to kick up my heels.

#4 -- The world ends with you [DS]

After the three previous games, my PSP will need some rest, so I'll switch to the DS for a while & play this hypish title. Can't wait to try this one, the characters look so stylish!

#5 -- Tales of Destiny [PSX]

I only played the first few minutes of this RPG & I was already laughing out loud at the dialogs. Oh, I bet this one is gonna be so much fun. I mean, a stupid blond hero & a lot of sarcastic talking, how could this get any better?

#6 -- Chrono Cross [PSX]

I don't really know what to expect of this game, but I already know its soundtrack by heart which is imo a masterpiece. Yasunori Mistuda (the composer) did an amazing work & this is reason enough for me to play. To think of it, the visuals of which I had a glimpse seem more than ok too.

#7 -- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire [PSP]

Well, what can I say, everyone needs to go back to childhood joys once in a while...

#8 -- Breath of Fire III [PSP]

Many people told me I had to give it a go. However, I have to say that the hero's sprite haircut gave me quite a bit of a scare... I mean, did a doggy poop on his head or what? (Sorry, this post is getting gross. ^^;) Hope to be happily surprised, we'll see.

#9 -- Valkyrie Profile Lenneth [PSP]

Getting to control a cool & powerful valkyrie (woah, her voice, scary, best game dub ever listened to!), totally fine by me.

By the way, I just stumbled upon this hilarious list of quotes from various RPG's. Give it a look, it's worth it.

Gamingly yours,

Pascale.

Sunday, lazy sunday

Today was one of these quiet days with a cosy feeling, cold outside but so warm at home.

We put the Christmas decorations & did basically nothing else. Especially me, yesterday seemed to have drained all my energy.

Speaking of which, I must tell you about what happened at the Guitar Hero contest… We failed, but not completely in fact.

Our score wasn’t really that good because of my vocals… But well, it’s not like I could really do something about it, there was a lot of noise all around & my voice is rather high-pitched so the mic had trouble capturing the notes I was making (and no, I was not out of tune! at least people told me so…).

But we weren’t totally disappointed because : 1) some of the contestants were complete Guitar Hero geeks (coming to the contest with your own plastic guitar on your back, what do you call that??), so it wasn’t a shame to lose against them, we did quite well actually (especially the two others…) ; 2) we spent a great day with all our friends who had come to support us! A big thank to them!

As far as I’m concerned, there was a third reason… My friends who were observing other people while we were doing our performance (hum hum) said to me that some seemed “amazed” by my voice. What a compliment! & on top of that, while I began to sing, some journalists who were there to cover the event actually put their microphone just before my mouth (you can imagine how nervous I became…). My brother told me that the cameraman, after hearing my first notes, said to his partner “the singer, the singer!”. Wow. I still cannot believe it. Anyway, it was also fun to be interviewed after losing, a kind of consolation reward. When it’s broadcasted on the net, I’ll tell you.

One thing I’m sure : I’ll NEVER be able to listen to “Beat it” EVER again! Heard it no less than 20 times in a row, eek.

It’s almost midnight here, time for me to go to bed. Sorry for the last few self-absorbed posts, I’ll try to share more exciting things in the future.

& I’m realizing that the title of the post do not fit the content, at all. Geez…

Egocentric-ly yours,

Pascale.

P.S. Hahaha, I already failed for the Nablopomo! I totally forgot to post yesterday, shame on me. Well, now I just have to do my best for the next weeks…

P.P.S. You find some kick-ass pictures just by browsing flickr & typing Guitar Hero.

G-Day -1 !

Yes, “G” as in Guitar Hero.

Tomorrow is the big day! For those who did not read (or could not) my post about the Guitar Hero World Tour Fnac Trophy, we (my brother, a friend of ours, & I) are participating in this European GHWT contest : Alex (our friend) is playing the plastic guitar, Bastien the rubber drums, & I’m taking care of the (real) vocals.

We were qualified a couple of weeks ago for the Belgian finals - how cool is that, huh - which will take place in Bruges, tomorrow. With only 15 other “bands” to compete against, we really hope we’ll reach the third position (& win the three PS3’s, yum!). Or, let’s go crazy, why not reaching the first or second position & be offered a week-end in Madrid for the European finals??

Let’s cross our fingers & let there be rock! Wish us luck!!

Guitar-Heroic-ly yours,

Pascale.

P.S. What better way to conclude this post than with a xkcd comic ?

You rock !!

Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII -
